'Richard Florida' Study Finds Triangle Has Nation's Most 'Educated' Center Cities

Top 10 in the Suburbs   


Richard Florida’s study of metro regions and their supply of human capital found the Triangle with vast resources both in the center cities and the suburbs.
The study, “Human Capital in Cities and Suburbs,” found that Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill’s center cities had a percentage of 45.9 of residents that held a bachelors degree or above. Suburban Triangle dwellers came in eighth nationally with 34.0 percent of adults with a college degree or better.
The center city listings are as follows: Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, 45.9 percent; Seattle-Bellevue-Everett, 45.2; San Francisco, 45.0; Washington, D.C., 43.5; Austin-San Marcos, 40.0; Oakland, 38.3; Boston, 37.0; San Jose, 36.7; West Palm Beach-Boca Raton, 35.4; and, Minneapolis-St. Paul, 35.1.

N.C. Deal Sets Train on Fast Track
The N.C. Department of Transportation recently announced it had won the agreement it needed to secure $461 million in federal grants that will put faster, more frequent and more reliable passenger trains on the tracks between Charlotte and Raleigh. The construction is expected to create 4,800 jobs over the next two years.
